The Bus Shelter MK is an inspirational local organisation playing a significant role in offering shelter to rough sleepers, giving them the opportunity to create an independent life away from the streets. Who are The Bus Shelter MK?
The Bus Shelter MK is a local charity offering support to rough sleepers across Milton Keynes, helping them get their lives back on track. They provide a warm, safe night’s sleep and 24/7 shelter to guests on their converted double-decker bus, which sleeps up to 16 people.
Once accepted by The Bus Shelter MK, individuals will be provided with an agreed period of time whereby they can stay with the charity and during this time, they will also be offered support in finding longer-term accommodation and stable work. In just a few years, this incredible charity has given over 60 guests a roof over their heads and provided more than 16,000 meals.
How did we get involved with the charity?
We first met with the wonderful team at The Bus Shelter MK around four years ago following an emergency call-out to their premises in central Milton Keynes. This led to our electricians in Milton Keynes completing further repairs and maintenance to ensure that their property remained safe and in full working order.
When the charity opted to move to a new site in Stantonbury, we were invited by the team to tender for the work required to create a functional premises. This would include a full strip out of the building then installing all new wiring and electrical components. We were thrilled to be awarded this contract and have continued to support this excellent charity ever since!
Our most recent project with The Bus Shelter MK
Our most recent work with The Bus Shelter MK was the project mentioned above which involved fully kitting out their new Stantonbury site. We were lucky enough to be involved in this project from the very first stages, stripping out the existing space before fully refurbishing the property. This involved replacing all new electricals, along with installing:
- CCTV
- Fire alarms
- Emergency lighting
- New circuits to outbuildings
- LED lighting inside and outside
- Electric heating
- Electric immersion heaters
- Electric power showers
We also fitted wireless access points across the site, allowing all of the residents to continue using their phones and laptops in each of the outbuildings.
Once the new building was complete, we worked with The Bus Shelter MK to create an ongoing maintenance contract tailored to their installations. Our electrical contractors in Milton Keynes continue to visit the site regularly to complete maintenance and testing of all electrical installations, fire alarm systems and CCTV, helping to keep the building functional and all residents safe.

- Volunteer: The Bus Shelter MK asks volunteers to commit to only one shift every 4 weeks, which will involve tasks such as supporting life on the bus, feeding residents and helping them to become more self-sufficient.
